In this experimental and investigational review case, a premature infant (30 weeks’ gestation)
was placed on inhaled nitric oxide for pulmonary hypertension with
billed charges of $300,000. AMS physician consulting experts reviewed the case and
determined that nitric oxide administration was experimental due
to the patient’s extreme prematurity. Current literature was
cited in this extensive report and resulted in large claims cost
savings for the client.
